Should your story become a “stop” on the Healthcare RoadTrip?

The Healthcare Roadtrip team is looking for new “stops” to profile on our road trip to uncover the most interesting, unique and innovative healthcare solutions. We are looking for stories that include:

An innovative response to a health problem.

Is the response to the healthcare issue innovative? We are looking for novel uses of technology, strategy, and everything in between to solve some of the toughest healthcare challenges.

Clear results

Is your solution already having an impact? Do you have data and results from your response? We want to hear about them!

Insight and Action Others Can Replicate

We are looking for stories that can inspire others to replicate or solve similar issues.

Is the solution developed from grassroots efforts?

We are looking for solutions that are developed locally, from grassroots efforts.

Notes From The Road

I started the Healthcare Roadtrip because I’ve been California Dreaming ever since I first set foot in this beautiful state at the age of 10. And I’ve wanted to tell its stories ever since. I'm the co-founder of Health 2.0, a writer-filmmaker and an advocate for a healthier world. I'm passionate about bearing witness to narratives of change and translating and magnifying their impact on our lives. I'm from Bangalore, India but I call Los Feliz, Los Angeles home.
The Healthcare Roadtrip began as a journey to learn more about the most challenging issues facing the health of our state’s diverse communities: unfiltered accounts told from the perspective of our residents and unsung heroes. And to study the solutions that were coming up from the grassroots and small groups that are actually working -- if only we could raise awareness and help spread them! It soon became obvious that this wasn’t just about California, and so we will keep going. We hope to cover as much ground as our curiosity and belief in the power of community will let us.
My goal is to explore the hyper-local realities of health from our physical bodies, homes, and relationships to our streets, schools, and places of work and worship. Health is personal, intersectional, and universal; I hope to explore the connections between these dimensions and for those connections to be a foundation for change.
I won't be traveling alone. Along the way, I'll be collaborating with incredible people and organizations. I can’t wait to introduce you.

Indu Subaiya, MD, MBA

Creator and Executive Producer, The Healthcare Roadtrip

Indu co-founded and served as CEO of Health 2.0, the leading conference and media platform that promotes and catalyzes new technologies in healthcare. Health 2.0's conference business was acquired by HIMSS in 2017. An immigrant from Bangalore, India, Indu moved to Long Island at the age of 9. She received her BS from Cornell University in Science and Technology Studies and MD from Stony Brook University. She moved west to receive her MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, deciding to forgo medical residency in order to develop new healthcare dialogues and care models. In 2018, Indu was selected as a fellow of the Aspen Institute's fourth class of Health Innovators Fellows.

Prior to founding Health 2.0, Indu was Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Physic Ventures, Vice President of Healthcare and Biomedical Research at Gerson Lehman Group and Director of Outcomes Research at Quorum Consulting, Inc. She has served as Vice President of the Society for Participatory Medicine and on advisory committees of the Department of Health and Human Services and National Health Data Consortium. She is an advisor to Parsley Health, Athletik, Patient Insight and Scentista.

Danielle J. Brooks, JD

Consulting Producer, The Healthcare Roadtrip

Danielle J. Brooks has spent the last decade designing, leading and managing research, project development, strategy and implementation programs across a variety of industries including healthcare, media and communications, human rights, policy, and law. She prides herself on bridging creativity with strategic approaches that result in true impact.

A native Iowan, Danielle studied at Oberlin College and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics. She then attended William and Mary School of Law, achieving her Juris Doctorate. Currently she owns and operates her own boutique consulting firm, Bridges. Bridges uses research, policy, strategic design and creativity to develop solutions for the organizations and communities they serve.

Danielle also serves on the Health IT advisory board for Transdisciplinary Collaborative Center (TCC) for Health Disparities Research at Morehouse School of Medicine and the Advisory Panel for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

”I’ve been involved in the healthcare industry, involuntarily and voluntarily my entire life. The product of a physician and a dentist, I have fond memories of spending weekends when I was a kid in my mom’s dental office pretending I was her assistant while she cleaned my sister’s teeth or playing with Barbies on a couch in my dad’s office while he meticulously poured over x-rays and lab results. Dedicating their careers to serving those “left out of the system”, I grew up in a home where equity in health was paramount. And this drive for equity served as the seeds of my inspiration. It is what moves me. It inspired me to go to law school and choose a career in policy and advocacy.”
